Page Improve Fonts in Fedora by Walter Francis — last modified Jan 10, 2010 06:12 PM
Fedora ships with a reasonable configuration for most users, however, some tweaks can be applied if you're using an LCD. Additional improvements to font rendering can also be applied if you wish to enable a patent encumbered font renderer. The method to do each of these, separately, are outlined below. I suggest doing both to maximize your font appearance! In addition to these font rendering changes, there is also information for adding additional fonts to Fedora in the sections following. Please note that some suggested changes in this document can be very subjective based on individual preferences, hardware used, etc. The Troubleshooting section goes into some more detail in this regard and should be considered before making changes.
Page Installing Sun Java browser plugin by opsec — last modified Oct 30, 2008 10:34 PM
This howto will show you how to painlessly install the Sun Java broswer plugin. You should be aware of several potential risks before you start. 1. Fedora uses gcj which is a free version of Java, but it is not Java. There are potential mix-match problems that can arise when compiling some applictions on development machines. 2. If your system is slow you may run into problems as Sun Java tends to be CPU and RAM intensive. 3. If you're running an x86_64 system and compiling 32bit applications without the proper chrooted environment it will most likely not work. The main purpose for this howto is only for a browser solution. If you need more in-depth instructions please see the howto here by Scott Glaser or the IcedTea howto by jmahowald. That said let's get started.
